Function

Heat pump

The compressors in a F1345 are an on/off type. The compressor’s full power is routed to heating, hot water, cooling or pool heating. If the power is not sufficient for the heating demand, additional heating is connected automatically.

The compressors in a F1355 consist of one on/off type and one inverter-controlled compressor. The compressor’s power is adjusted according to the demand and routed to heating, hot water, cooling or pool heating. If the power is not sufficient for the heating demand, additional heating is connected automatically.

Multiple heat pumps

Multiple heat pumps can be interconnected, by selecting one heat pump as the master and the others as slaves. The heat pump is always delivered as the master heat pump, and up to 8 subordinate heat pumps can be connected to it and supply up to 540 kW (with 9 x F1345-60 kW) in the same system. In systems with several heat pumps, each pump is given a unique name. External temperature sensors and control signals must be connected solely to the primary heat pump, except for external control of the compressor module and reversing valve(s) (QN10), which can be connected one to each heat pump.

Operating modes

Heat production

F1345/F1355 is equipped with a heating control system, which means that the heating supply to the property takes place according to selected settings. For more information about heat production, see the Installer Manual.

Hot water production

If hot water heating is required, one or more external water heaters/accumulator tanks are docked.

Hot water production takes place from the compressor(s) set to produce hot water.

If the hot water temperature exceeds 60 °C, the installation must be supplemented with a mixing valve.

Cooling production

Passive cooling, cooling function without the compressor running, is achieved by connecting a cooling system to the heat pump’s brine circuit. The collector’s low temperature can be utilised for comfort cooling.

When cooling is required (activated from the outdoor temperature sensor and any room sensor) the circulation pump is activated and the shunt valve provides the correct supply temperature.

Functions/accessories

External heating medium pump

An external heating medium pump can be connected via an AUX output in F1345/F1355. If the AUX output is being used for any other function, the heating medium pump can instead be connected via the AXC module. The heating medium pump can be connected via the following functions:

  • additional heat (accessory AXC 50)

  • shunt-controlled additional heat (accessory AXC 50)

External brine pump

An external brine pump can be connected via an AUX output in F1345/F1355. If the AUX output is being used for any other function, the brine pump can instead be connected via the AXC module. The brine pump can be connected via the following functions:

  • ground water pump (accessory AXC 50)

Extra heating system

This function requires the ECS 40/41 accessory. Shunt valve, supply and return line sensors, as well as circulation pump, are connected to other heating circuits with a lower temperature demand (e.g. underfloor heating system). The temperature in the extra heating system follows the selected curve slope and offset setting. Up to 8 extra heating systems can be connected to the installation.

Immersion heater in tank

Used to produce hot water at the same time as the heat pump prioritises other demands.

Ventilation recovery

Ventilation recovery means that the heat from the exhaust air is utilised and supplied to the installation.

This function requires the accessory NIBE FLM. NIBE FLM is an exhaust air module that is controlled by F1345/F1355. NIBE FLM recovers energy from the exhaust air and supplies it to the brine.

Ground water system

This connection enables the use of ground water as heat source. The ground water is pumped up to an intermediate heat exchanger. An intermediate heat exchanger is used to protect the heat pump's exchanger from dirt and freezing. The water is released into a buried filtration unit or a drilled well.

The ground water pump runs at the same time as the brine pump.

Passive cooling (cooling in 4-pipe system)

This function requires the AXC 50 accessory. The cooling system is connected to the heat pump brine circuit, through which cooling is supplied from the collector via the circulation pump and the shunt valve.

When cooling is required (activated from the outdoor temperature sensor EB100-BT1 and room sensor EB100-BT50, where applicable), EP44-QN18 and the circulation pump EP44-GP10 are activated.

The shunt valve regulates so that the cooling sensor reaches the current set point value corresponding to the outdoor temperature and the set min. value for the cooling temperature (to prevent condensation).

Active/passive cooling (cooling in 4-pipe system)

With the accessory ACS 45, a separate cooling system can be connected via a reversing valve. ACS 45 allows both heat and cooling production independently of each other.

Passive cooling occurs without the compressor running, active cooling occurs when the compressor is running. The cooling system is connected to the heat pump’s brine circuit.

When cooling is required (activated from the outdoor temperature sensor (EB100-BT1) and room sensor (EB100-BT50), where applicable), the shunt valve (EQ1-QN18) and the circulation pump (EQ1-GP10) are activated.

Heat dump

If there is excess heat, this is dumped to a coolant radiator or to the collector.

Pool

With the AXC 50 accessory, the heat pump(s) can be used to heat one or more pools.

Compressor selection

During pool operation and hot water production, you can choose which of the compressors will be responsible for operation. More compressor selections can be made.

Step controlled additional heat

F1345/F1355 can control step-controlled additional heat via a control signal.

The additional heat is used for heat production.

Shunt controlled additional heat

F1345/F1355 can, via a control signal, control additional heat, which can also be prioritised.

The additional heat is used for heat production.

District heating for heating

This function enables district heating additional heat to assist with heating.

District heating for heating with district heating module from Cetetherm

This function allows additional district heating to assist with the heating as shunt-controlled additional heat.

The AXC module AA25, external circulation pump GP10 and the sensors BT52, BT25 and BT71 are enclosed and are installed in the district heating module. The sensors BT25 and BT71 are connected to F1345/F1355.

The trim valve RN1 is used to regulate the flow over the heat pump and the district heating unit, and to avoid a high district heating return. Ensure the defrosting flow according to the Installer Manual.

District heating for heating and hot water with district heating module from Cetetherm

This function enables district heating additional heat to produce both heat and hot water, including hot water circulation.

The AXC module AA25, external circulation pump GP10 and the sensors BT52, BT25 and BT71 are enclosed and are installed in the district heating module. The sensors BT25 and BT71 are connected to F1345/F1355.

The trim valve RN1 is used to regulate the flow over the heat pump and the district heating unit, and to avoid a high district heating return. Ensure the defrosting flow according to the Installer Manual.

Shunt controlled brine

This connection makes it possible to control a shunt valve that regulates the incoming brine temperature.

The heat pump controls a shunt valve (QN41) to limit the maximum incoming brine temperature via temperature sensor (BT26). If the sensor registers a value above the maximum set temperature, the shunt valve is closed to reduce the mix of incoming brine.

The function is only active when the accessory AXC 50 is activated and when a compressor in the system is running.

Buffer vessel (UKV)

A 2-pipe, parallel-connected buffer vessel is used for high-temperature and/or low-flow systems. This connection principle requires a continuous flow over the external supply temperature sensor (BT25) and it is used as a buffer for the heat pump (volume expansion) and as a buffer for the climate system (for large, temporary power outputs such as defrosting and fan coil, etc.).

Buffer vessel (UKV)

A 2-pipe, serially connected buffer vessel is used as a buffer for the heat pump (volume expansion and when there is a risk of short operating times). This connection principle requires a continuous flow over the external supply temperature sensor (BT25) and is used as a buffer for the heat pump (volume expansion) and as a buffer for the climate system (for large, temporary power outputs such as defrosting and fan coil, etc.).

Cetetherm AquaEfficiency

NIBE F1345/F1355 (EB100) is connected to accumulator tanks (CP10) and charges them.

The energy is transferred via Cetetherm AquaEfficiency (EZ2) from the accumulator tanks to the tap side. The hot water is heated when needed, but not stored.

A mixing valve is built into AquaEfficiency, which reduces the risk of scalding, as well as an HWC pump which ensures that there is always hot water at the right temperature.

For maximum efficiency and optimum utilisation of the accumulator tanks, it is important to have good stratification in the tanks. For connection according to the Tichelmann principle, only trim valve RN1.1 is required. With other types of connections, the flow is adjusted through the accumulator tanks with the aid of more trim valves.

The controlling hot water sensor (BT6) is positioned in such a way that 1/3 of the total accumulator volume is below the sensor. The heat pump’s start and stop temperatures are affected by the location of the sensor as well as the charge power in relation to accumulator volume.

Commissioning and adjusting

  1. Check that "hot water, auto" is not selected in menu 5.1.11 - "pump speed heating medium".

  2. Check that "hot water, manual" in menu 5.1.11 is set to 100%.

  3. Start all the compressors that are connected to hot water.

  4. Adjust the flow with the trim valve (RN1.1) so that the difference between the supply and return lines is 10 K at 55°C supply or higher (10.5 K at 45°C supply, 11 K at 35°C supply).

  5. After each adjustment of the trim valve, allow the system to stabilise for 3 minutes before the next adjustment.

  6. Verify the temperature difference over 10 minutes of operation.

  7. When the correct temperature difference has been verified, select operating mode ”hot water, auto” in menu 5.1.11.

  8. In menu 5.1.1 - "hot water settings", adjust the temperature settings for hot water charging start and stop to suitable values, depending on charge power and volume.

    TIPS If you want 55°C domestic hot water, start 53°C and stop 59°C are recommended.

  9. Set “charge method” to “target temp” in menu 5.1.1.

  10. Once commissioning is complete, monitor one cycle to ensure that the system does not stop at high return or condenser temperature until hot water charging is complete in BT6.

Hot water circulation

A circulation pump can be controlled by F1345/F1355 to circulate the hot water. The circulating water must have a temperature that prevents bacterial growth and scalding, and national standards must be satisfied. See the appropriate Installer Manual for more information.

Hot water circulation with district heating

The hot water is enhanced with district heating, which is used with hot water circulation.
